Our Commitment to Safety - "No compromise"!

1. The Basics.

iSky Aerial Photography operates under the limitations of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Rules Part 101 governing remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). These are, but not limited to:
  • No operational activity with 4km of an aerodrome boundary,
  • must not operate 121 metres (400 feet) above ground level or higher,
  • must maintain a visual line of sight at all times,
  • be able to see the surrounding airspace at all times,
  • must fly only during daylight hours,
  • must give right of way to any manned aircraft.

2. The Extras

iSky Aerial Photography will carry out pre flight checks to ensure the ongoing safety of personnel and aircraft during flights. These are, but not limited to:
  • Obtaining detailed weather forecasts for the proposed flight area,
  • Keeping aware of the Kp-Index. This quantifies disturbances in the horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field,
  • Trees within the flight zone,
  • Power and telephone line placements,
  • Cellphone towers and other sources of possible geomagnetic distortions,
We use a standard checklist which is completed and kept by us for reference purposes.

3. The Aircraft

Our DJI Phantom 3 aircraft have failsafe technologies built in. These are, but not limited to:
  • Return to Home. At the press of a button, the aircraft will either ascend or descend to a preset height and travel back to the home position (set by GPS at the warm up stage), hover at that height then gently descend to the ground and land.
  • Signal from ground controller lost. The aircraft will initiate the return to home sequence if radio contact is lost at any time,
  • Battery level reaches critical. If the batteries in with the controller or aircraft reach a preset percentage level, the aircraft will initiate the return to home sequence
  • Hands off hover. The aircraft will remain stationary at the point of current position if the control levers are released. Hovering in the one place utilises the GPS capabilities of the avionics.
